Named after the Manzanilla tree that once grew abundantly here, La Manzanilla is a small fishing village of approximately 1000 people. Located in the state of Jalisco, this quaint fishing village is tucked away in the southeastern corner of the pristine Bay of Tenacatita. This idyllic half-moon shaped bay on the "Costa Allegre", which means Happy Coast, is a popular beach destination for local Mexicans as well as visitors from Canada and the United States.

La Manzanilla is famous for its Mangrove, a wetland ecosystem that is home to as many as 200 resident American crocodiles. This sanctuary is now a protected area and the crocodiles are studied by universities world-wide. They are easily viewed from a platform at the southern end of the village.
